A full day of character creation, world building, and table top roleplaying, led by highly qualified instructional and supervisory staff.

Drawn to Character Comics Online Fee $49.99 Includes

A 2-hour online workshop via zoom, featuring comic book creation and character building, led by highly qualified instructional and supervisory staff. $49.99 per person, with an additional $15 per person in the household (max. 4 people per household).

Mason Repka (He/They)

Bio

Mason is a storyteller at heart, and has Studied English and Creative Writing at MacEwan University and the University of Victoria. Their dream job is to be a wizard, sending daring and unwitting heroes towards life-changing adventure. Mason is the director and founder of Dark Ascension LARP, and works as a professional Game Master, guiding players through the realms of table-top and live-action roleplaying. Mason is also a Registered Massage Therapist, and works at YouthWrite as a Communications Manager, Supervisor, and Instructor. They are so excited to be leading you on a table-top adventure this spring!

Course

Table Top Adventure - Join Mason as your Game Master as they guide you through character creation and world building basics, and lead you on an epic adventure using table top gaming mechanics and writing exercises to build new characters, learn to write through roleplay, and craft a narrative world together. In the morning, we will explore worldbuilding, character writing, backstory, and the art of live collaborative storytelling. In the afternoon, we'll bring all the pieces together into a table top adventure that we'll play through using our new characters, set in the world we've built together. Adventure awaits!

Daniel J Schneider (He/Him)

Bio

Daniel J Schneider is a comic artist, illustrator and storyteller hailing from his family's cattle ranch near Edmonton. He holds the honour of being the first Comic shop Artist in Residence at Happy Harbour Comics and has been privileged to be teaching students about how to create comics for the past 9 years. You can find his work in comics such as Gamesworkshop’s “Reforged”, “The Saga of the Jack of Spades”, “Ape Court” and soon the webtoon Sire & Cub.

Course

Capturing the Mind's Eye - As comic book artists we're often tasked with creating the characters, places and events a writer's words describe. Let's focus on how we artists take the written word and bring it to life with our artistic interpretation. We'll all start our visual storytelling with written descriptions, talk about how to read those descriptions effectively, and see where our interpretations take us!

Drawn to Character Coordinator

Tania Gigliotti (She/Her)

is the little Hobbit you may have seen previously working in the children's section of bookstores and comic book stores around Edmonton. When she's not working for YouthWrite, she is the Project Manager on the Young People are the Future Project researching youth engagement in living history museums. At YouthWrite, she is Master of Excel and Campfax and also Communications Manager.

YouthWrite Director-Coordinator

Gail Sidonie Sobat (She/They)

is a multi-award-winning teacher and author, with twelve books for children, teens and adults, and a number of educational and academic articles. A Global News Woman of Vision and an Arts and Culture Citation Award recipient, she is the YouthWrite creator/ coordinator, an international presenter, an instructor in the professional writing program at MacEwan University and in the Faculty of Education at U of A. Gail was The Writers’ Union of Canada Regional Representative for Alberta, NWT and Nunavut, and writer in residence with the Metro Edmonton Federation of Libraries.

She has moved forty times in her life from Badlands to Siksika Nation Reserve to hideous suburbs to Istanbul to the Sunshine Coast to her writer’s garret in a century-old temperamental house. She adores all of her Supers & Coordinators equally, and loves YouthWrite like a madwoman!
